Two-year-old Isabel
Written by Alastair Rattray.   Published on 23 June 2002.

Isabel's mother heard about the Project from another parent. She was desparately worried as Isabel had already been hospitalised four times with serious asthma attacks. She had been prescribed steroids previously but these had not had any effect on Isabel's condition. She was using Ventolin which helped but did not control the situation. She was seeing an osteopath every two weeks at the time of her first Bowen treatment. These stopped when she started having the Bowen treatment.

She was having asthma attacks every two weeks and her frequent colds often progressed to an asthma attack.

Isabel had her first Bowen treatment, which lasted approximately 40 seconds, in early November 2001. A few days later she brought up a lot of mucus.

Six days after her first treatment, her mother called to say that Isabel was very unwell. She had seen the doctor who had prescribed steroids, but she had not given her a dose as previous experience had indicated this would have no effect. I arrived shortly after the doctor's appointment. Isabel looked very unwell, wheezing on her mother's breast and very quiet. Within one minute of her receiving the Bowen treatment, she suddenly sat up, started talking, got down, asked for a drink and started playing happily. The crisis, which had looked like another trip to hospital being most likely, had passed.

Working on the principle that she should have a treatment immediately whenever she was unwell, she had five treatments between November 2001 and early March 2002, all for minor colds or occurances of wheezing, from which she recovered very quickly.

She was very unwell for a day in early March when a visit was not possible. Her mother described Isable's stomach as "beginning to collapse" - a good description of the diaphram going into spasm. Using a combination of Ventolin, steam and her mother's attempts at the Bowen Asthma Emergency move, Isabel improved by the end of the day. By the following day, Isabel had fully recovered.

As of late June 2002, Isabel remains in good health.

As has often been mentioned by other parents, each attack/illness has been much less than before and has lasted only a day or so. Previously, the child was unwell for a week or two each time causing considerable anxiety to the parents.
